What is one thing you love about working at Bovitz/ION/Communify?

I love the people and the environment here! My learning style, how I communicate with others, and so much more have never been questioned. Collaborating across teams is fun and easy. I’ve felt so much happiness and closeness here since I joined the team. The opportunity to work with people who are so passionate about what they do is truly amazing, and it helps me create endless possibilities through my designs.

Tell me about a life-changing experience you’ve had.

A few years ago, I got really sick and had a health crisis. The doctors didn’t know what was going on. I lost a severe amount of weight, was experiencing paralysis, couldn’t keep any food down, and was in a lot of pain. Seeing myself like that, where I could see my bones and struggled to even get up, was gut wrenching. Through all of that, people that I thought were my friends stopped coming by and communicating with me. Only a select few stood by my side and were encouraging throughout the whole ordeal. I love them with all my heart. I learned not everyone, even those who are close to you, are actually there for you. It made me rethink all my relationships. It also altered my trust in people. I am more reserved because of it, but I am also more expressive of my feelings towards people.

What's something that people are surprised to learn about you?

People are surprised just how carefree and adventurous I am. Go mountain climbing and almost fall off? That’s me. Almost get squared up by a kangaroo on a hike? That’s me. Go snorkeling and see a sunken ship…bike and camp across New Zealand…get lost in Fiji and hitch a ride in a random van…eat insects. Yep, that’s me (and the insects were surprisingly tasty).

What inspires you?

Just experiencing life. Venturing into the unknown. I love exploring and doing things I’ve never done before. I meet awesome people along the way and get to know their stories and learn so much. It helps generate creative ideas and solutions in everyday life.

Why is being people-first important to you?

Life sometimes makes us feel like cogs in our daily lives. Rather than seeing people as individuals, you start seeing them as objects and dehumanizing them. You gain a new perspective and create new relationships when you care about people's interests, stories, and journeys. It also opens a pathway to becoming more empathetic, understanding, knowledgeable, and overall, a better person.
